Here’s an interesting and funny article written by Bernadette Coveney Smith about how she guides gay couples through straight marriage planning. Lots of fun and food for thought. Guess we will have to wait for the rest of the world to catch up to us!

How did BMP T-Shirts start?

Kathy picked up 6 bottles of fabric paint in rainbow colors at a local arts and craft store. She loved the bright, rich colors represented in the gay pride flag and the freedom it stood for. Those jars of paint stood on her kitchen countertop until ideas started to reveal themselves.  

Once uncapped and the creaminess of the paint and texture on the cloth beneath her fingers, she was connected to a completely different way of thinking. Next question: can you make a gay pride t-shirt without using gay pride colors? Diane and Kathy decided to strip it all down to two colors at the opposite ends of the color spectrum: black and white. Adding splashes of red along with some humor, our first set of designs became the cornerstone of our company and remain our most popular! And this is also the reason why we choose to print on only black and white t-shirts. 

Diane used art and music as creative ways of expressing herself. Drawing her own cartoons and comic strips instead of using crayons and a coloring book, she would recreate the actual picture without tracing it. In junior high school, she discovered water colors, pastels, charcoal, and pencil – her favorite mediums still to this day.  The prints she creates for BMP T-Shirts represent her caricature way of drawing.

Everything you see was created by Diane and Kathy from idea to t-shirt.  

At first, all prints were hand-painted. After exhibiting at a few pride festivals, they couldn’t paint enough t-shirts to keep up. So, they took time to evaluate and tested the most popular printing methods that gave them the durability and bold colors they were looking for. Today they use high quality screen printing inks on stylish, fitted t-shirts on BMP T-Shirts private label. 

Their slogan, “We’ve Got Your Back” - They mean that literally! They make all of their own products to maintain our high standards to our customers.  A portion of every sale goes to help support The Matthew Shepherd Foundation because they believe in their efforts in promoting understanding and acceptance.

He then referenced a clergy member who testified to the committee that sexuality was a “gift from God”. Can I get an “Amen” somebody?

Is it finally beginning to sink in that maybe homosexuality is not a choice for all? WOW! Could this be the beginning of acceptance? I find it encouraging to hear that religious and political leaders are rethinking their assumptions. It will be interesting to see the opposition respond. Will they stick to their same old arguments or will they have to come up with another reason why we should be denied our rights?
