BMP T-Shirts was founded by partners Diane and Kathy in 2003. We wanted to create original, funny gay t-shirts and started under the name Bitch Mode Productions. We have since changed our name to BMP T-Shirts to cover our broader range of ideas.
We started with the pride colors and the inside jokes of the gay community. At first, all of our prints were hand-painted. With rainbows on everything everywhere, we decided to strip it all down to two colors at the opposite ends of the color spectrum: black and white. Adding splashes of red along with some humor, our first set of designs became the cornerstone of our company and remain our most popular! This is also the reason why we choose to print on only black and white t-shirts. Today, our influences are the driving forces of our community: equality and acceptance.
While vending at NJ Pride 2003 in Asbury Park, the host, comedienne Suzanne Westenhoefer, came by our tent and remarked, “Ya’ know, you’re gonna burn in hell for that one!” after viewing our “What Would Joan Do?” t-shirt. This was our “ah-ha” moment!
From pride festivals, we went onto major trade shows at the Jacob Javits Center in New York 2005: the GLBT Expo and the Gay Life Expo. While at the GLE, we met Honey Labrador of Bravo’s “Queer Eye for the Straight Girl.” After she interviewed us, she wanted our “Bitch Mode On” shirt to wear on her show and said we were the “buzz of the Expo!” Soon after, we were contacted by Martian Entertainment, producers of two NYC off-Broadway plays, “Dog Sees God” and "Naked Boys Singing." We supplied the cast and crew of “Dog Sees God” with our “WWJD” t-shirts to complement one of the lines in the play. Our “Bitch Mode On” shirt was also worn on stage by one of the actors in “Naked Boys Singing.”
On May 7th, 2006, Kim Stoltz from “America’s Next Top Model” interviewed us for Here!TV at the Equality Forum in Philadelphia, PA. (go to our videos for more…)
Our slogan, “We’ve Got Your Back” is not only our way of expressing our unity among all members of the LGBT community, but we mean that literally! We make all of our own products to maintain our high standards to our customers. We use high quality screen printing inks that give us what we are looking for – durability and bold colors on stylish, fitted t-shirts on our own private BMP T-Shirts label.
A portion of every sale goes to The Matthew Shepard Foundation and we are proud to help support their efforts in promoting understanding and acceptance among LGBT youth.
Thank you for visiting BMP T-Shirts and you are welcome to contact us at anytime.
